Darkness Was Dreaming

Darkness was dreaming
Of foothills and hands
Of sinking bodies in a wreckage
Mouths open, looking towards the sky

Darkness was dreaming
About touching a woman, touching a man
Crouching clouds
Foghorns

Dreams of windows
Dreams of earthquakes
Dreams of mothers and fathers naming their babes

Darkness was dreaming
Of what is waiting at Time’s stoop
Of when the last star will bow out
Of linens

Tongues, and taste
Darkness was dreaming
Of an apple’s sweet sap
Of a pine’s lone needle
Dreaming

Darkness was dreaming
Of my death
Of the inception of itself
Of what came before Darkness

Of what will come after Darkness.
