Night Rider
Sleeplessness rides me as a steed,
Banks me down,
Ripping my hooves to callous bleed.
Rakes my hide,
Breaks my back,
Suffocating me, eating me fat;
Hollows me into a bowl, so bottomless
—to penniless foal.
Thickly rich reins hanging me.
Face down on bed covers,
Begging, “Please.”
Restless
The floor, it sucks,
Vacuuming me up.
Engulfing me into a dark,
Sets me sailing
Off shores of Denmark.
Unconsciousness swirls
And heavy dreams
Whirlpool me down.
The nightmares now
Creep in;
So then come the hounds.
