Marie Never Did What She Was Told To Do

Marie walked up the sun one day

Had a tea party with the fishes

Slid her fingers through their yellow sea

Met her shadow and tied him in knots

Left him with a kiss and slipped off her skirt

Whistled a tune

Clicking her heels against the moon

She galloped away with Night Riders

And never waited for permission

To dance with freedom and waltz with sin

Don’t ever question a woman’s dream

Or how she came to know what you never knew

And never

Never

Tell a Marie what to do.
