Lone

I am not together.
I am not tongue tied.

I am not worship,
Beyond worship,
I haven’t got a watch to tell the time.

I will not love you unconditionally.
I will not placate you,
Nor let you have your fill of me.

I am not lonely,
Loneliness,
But I am alone.

Like the sea, I am alone.

Whether I wake to blinking face,
Winter window,
An empty room with furnace clanking,
In this body, I am home.

Like the single star,
The leaf blown ‘way,
The mountain.

I am alone.

Steady. Free. As Iron. Home
