Harsh Sun

Curling blades, sundering hides,
Things flake and writhe and wither,

Heat, encapsulates, the lungs,
Squeezing heads, stuffing beds with

Scalding, turning eyeballs inside out,
Insidious in its procession,

Relentless, obsessive,
Crunching soils to sands,

Twisting hands into red coals,
Baking under the beast

Of bright, dropping mouth and
Sucking on faces, hanging

Legs, making all the bold
Stumble and wearily press on,

Evaporating water from palms
Trying gasping, fasting the

Chill of night, leering, setting
All the world aflame, alight.
