Throughout the day and I am out walking
I am being followed.
All year round, as I take
To life as a winged cricket,
Chirping in song,
So you come and come,
Asking.
I say,
“I have no money, but life is sweeter thus.”
“I left my home, but life is sweeter thus.”
“I do not hate, I do not know how.”
“I harbor no fear, and darkness walks with me.”
All year round, as I take
To life as a winged cricket,
Scraping legs in song,
So you come and come,
Asking.
“But you are a failure, does that not frighten you?”
“But you are without safety, does that not frighten you?”
“But you do experience anger, so you must give in.”
“But you are human, so you must fear as I do.”
No.
No.
No.
No.
I say,
“I have no money, but I am not afraid.”
“I left my home, but I am not afraid.”
“I do feel anger, but I am not afraid, for I am captain of my ship.”
“I am human, yes. But I am not you.”
All year round, as I take
To life as a winged cricket,
Whistling in the night,
So you come and come,
Ever frightful.
But I,
All year round, walk the shadow,
Unsure of where each foot will fall,
Unsure of my future, my
Limitations, my
Cause and effect and
What will become of me, I do not know.
Still, I do not worry.
I do not worry.
Such things will be will be.
I do what I must do today.
I do what goodness and courage that I can.
I will fail, and I will experience anger and pain.
You may ask all you like, the answer is the same.
I am the captain of my ship.
If the sea decides to roar, then it shall roar.
Ask me now,
Ask me hence,
You know what it will be.
“Yes, it is dark.”
“Yes, I am without safety.”
“Yes, I do not know the way.”
“But I am not afraid.”
