Mother says I am an opinionated
obstinate girl, headstrong,
who is always barreling into things,
like a plow, rampaging,
reaping all the wheat fields,
turbines humming, land rovers
growling out my loins, riding mountains.
Mother says I am a beast, wild child,
up too late at night, tells me
stop using the house windows as doors,
go to sleep, I’m not a bat, or cat,
being still would be advantageous for me,
I’ve school in the morning,
most girls listen to their mothers.
